Knife Party
Knife Party is an animation collective helmed by Simon Robson, working across a range of media with an emphasis on diverse creative collaborations.
In 2003 Simon worked alongside writer and political thinker Barry McNamara to create his first animated short, ‘What Barry Says’. The film is a response to the US invasion of Iraq and elucidates McNamara’s outspoken views on what he calls ‘War Corporatism’. The film won best animation at The Brooklyn International Film Festival as well as The Portobello Film Festival in 2004. Since its release the film has been shown at festivals all over the world including Edinburgh, Toronto, onedotzero and Rushes Soho Shorts.
In 2006 Simon collaborated with director Chris Atkins, to create the animation for the documentary feature film ‘Taking Liberties’. The film, which addresses the decline of Civil Liberties in the UK since 1997, went on to be nominated for a BAFTA in 2008.
Simon’s commercial work includes graphic idents for Nike and Seeds of Change as well as a 60 second promotional spot for Adidas featuring the world’s best footballers. Most recently he has directed commercials for Save The Children, The Observer and The Guardian.
Simon is currently developing his new project ‘Coalition of The Willing’ with philosopher and writer Tim Rayner. They are now at the helm of the evolving project, bringing together artists from around the world to create a film and an online event that proposes a pro-active response to the climate crises.
